I want to share some upgrades that I have done with my DE M50. I want to present this in levels and stages. So that if you are in a tight budget than you can do the upgrades in stages.
LEVEL 1: Level 1 upgrades is to optimize the performance of your gun with out changing anything from stock parts. Cost is very minimal and mostly labor cost.
To start with most M50 I have encountered whether A(pin type) or P(punched/stamped) the stock FPS is somewhere around 320-330FPS.
STAGE 1: TEFLON FIX: place in the hop and barrel to reduce airleaks. Resulting FPS will vary depeding on the unit, it will range from 370-410 FPS or more. Depeding on the individual unit.
COST: you can DIY and just buy teflon from the hardware store at around P6-P10
STAGE 2: CYLINDER MOD: This process mainly modifies the cylinder so the spring, piston and rubber cap can be accessed. This requires the use of machine shop tools. The compression will be checked at this stage and corrected if needed, this mod will allow you to increase FPS by about 20-30 FPS and will make it more consistent. If there are leaks on the front of the cylinder then o-ring will be replaced.
COST:P250 machine shop labor for modifying cylinder with small bolts.
LEVEL 2: This upgrade will involve replacing parts from to the gun give it additional FPS and to make it more durable and to witstand the additional stress.
STAGE 3A:BASIC SPRING UPGRADE: Replace stock spring with longer custom made spring.
COST:P250
Resulting FPS: 430-450FPS.
STAGE 3B:TIGHT BARREL UPGRADE: Replace stock barrel with your choice of custom lenght and tightness. Mostly ordered from Manila
COST: P1800 - up
FPS gain: for confirmation, since a tight barrel does not guarantee additional FPS but will defintely improve shot groupings
STAGE 4:DURABILITY UPGRADES: Replace critical parts to allow the gun to handle more stress from harder springs and constant bolt cylcing and firing. This will not add FPS to your existing set-up but will definitely make it more durable. Parts to be replaced/custom made:
1. Metal Spring guide P350
2. Spring guide stopper P350
3. Trigger sear P850
4. Bolt handle P850
LEVEL 3: This upgrade will replace the cylinder to provide more FPS. You may opt to buy the commercially available upgrade set from EDGI or if you are in a tight budget replace only the neccessary parts.
STAGE 5A: Replace essential parts on the cylinder to make it more durable to handle stiffer springs. Resulting
1. Spring replacement - P200
2. Piston modification(o-ring type and air brake) - P
3. Cylinder replacement - P
STAGE 5B: Replace the whole cylinder with EDGI's cylinder upgrade. Documented to be more than 500+ FPS
Here's the link about it: acmgames.proboards66.com/index.cgi?board=springertech&action=display&thread=1153370870
Cost is about 3.8K which includes Spring, Metal spring guide, cylinder assembly. Thing is, it is very hard to cycle the bolt using this upgrade. If you plan to use this upgrade you can do away with item #1 in stage 4. But you will have to order yourself from Manila.
So far that's the upgrades available for the M50. Still finishing my setup for stage 5A, so we could all get that 500 FPS without spending so much.
