This is by no means MY idea. This concept has been around and in use for several years already by veteran airsofters who have been around longer than I have. I'm just posting the info here for the benefit of the 1AD members.
the concept:
- Custom ratio gearsets are achieved my mixing/matching gears from FLAT Super Torque Up, FLAT Torque Up, FLAT Stock Ratio and even FLAT High speed gears. (emphasis on the FLAT! Nope, hindi po ito pwde sa HELICAL gearsets)
warnings:
- There are small differences in gear sizes- but experience has shown us the proper shimming and prudent spring selection will still give us good service and long life from these "mixed gear" sets.
- There are also noticable differences in gear WIDTHs. Some gear combos may refuse to fit properly inside the gearbox- bushing modification or gear sleeve modification may be required.
why do it:
-for some instances that Super torque up gears are too much torque but not enough ROF.
-for some instances that stock gears dont' have enough torqu, but too much rpm.
-when TORQUE UP or double torque up sets are not available.
-for economy. YOu can split a super torque up gearset between two AEGs instead of buying two Torque up gearsets.
The ratios:
Here are a few baseline ratios- tnx to sir Almighty-
Here is a standard Systema/CA STU gearset ratio-
A. Bevel to Pinion Ratio: 30:10 = 3
B. Spur to Bevel Ratio: 40:8 = 5
C. Sector to Spur Ratio: = 32:18 = 1.78
3 x 5 x 1.78 = 26.7
---
Here is one popular mixed gear combo: STU SECTOR + STU SPUR + STOCK BEVEL(ten teeth on the smaller cog)
A. Bevel to Pinion Ratio: 30:10 = 3
B. Spur to Bevel Ratio: 40:10 = 4
C. Sector to Spur Ratio: = 32:18 = 1.78
3 x 4 x 1.78 = 21.334
Take note that this puts it's ratio somewhere between our stock gears and the prom double torque gearsets. Perfect for PDI190, SP120, M120 springs with small batts. Also perfect for SP130, M130 springs with Large sub-c batts or lipolys.
---
Another similar combo would be to use Stock STEEL SECTOR and SPUR GEARS(TM gears not recommended) + the STU BEVEL(8teeth on the smaller cog).
A. Bevel to Pinion Ratio: 30:10 = 3
B. Spur to Bevel Ratio: 39:8 = 4.875
C. Sector to Spur Ratio: = 32:20 = 1.6
3 x 4.875 x 1.6 = 23.4
Notice that it has a higher ratio than the first combo, pushing it closer to the STU ratio but a bit faster. Which is why some players who wish to economize, often split a set of STU flat gears between themselves instead of buying TWO SETS of double-torque/torque up gears. One player gets the STU spur, while the other gets the STU bevel.

A stock gearset has
Bevel to Motor Pinion Ratio: 30:10 = 3:1
Spur to Bevel Ratio: 39:10 = 3.9:1
Sector to Spur Ratio: = 32:20 = 1.6:1
Final Ratio = 3 x 3.9 x 1.6 = 18.72
Prometheus gears have the following:
High Speed 16.46
Standard 18.72
Double Torque 23.79
Triple Torque 26.43
Bevel to Motor Pinion Ratio: 30:10 = 3:1
Spur to Bevel Ratio: 39:10 = 3.9:1
