Both are sighting tools for a more accurate shot without the aid of magnification. Meaning at an actual scale of the image or picture of the target as viewed. Both require batteries to operate. So bassicaly they have the same purpose. To serve as a reflex site based on a projected mark on the scope. The difference between the two is how the marking aid is projected. The hologram reflex sight (eotech) uses a hologram that is projected to a glass surface in the form of a circle. The reflex reddot (aimpoint) marks a simple green or red dot to the glass surface. Advantage of the red dot aimpoint is it is more sturdier and a lesser chance of damaging the lens since it has a metal casing but is bulkier and a tends to emits a red color on the front surface (easily fixed by using a diffuser). The eotech is simpler, compact and adds a newer taste to your eagerness in accessories but is more prone to breakage, imagine its lens being hit by a bb.. So in the end, its a matter of personal choice. But in performance. Both can be an excellent tool for target acquisition..
