Davao City is celebrating its 75th Araw ng Dabaw Celebration 2012 with its theme “Davao : Life is Here”. In line with this celebration, Davao City will hold a Poetry Composition Contest on Feb 9, 2012 , Wednesday at DCRC (Almendras Gym). Contestants will compose poem relating to the theme “Davao : Life is Here!”.

POETRY COMPOSITION CONTEST
I. Contest Rules and Mechanics
The 75th Araw ng Dabaw POETRY COMPOSITION CONTEST is open to all Dabawenyos. There are two (2) categories in this competition:
Youth Category – Individuals under 18 years old
Senior Category – Individuals from 18 years and older
A participant is allowed only one composition as their official entry. Entries made by a group will not be accepted. Each entry must represent the participant’s original work, thus the absolute author of the poem.
Written compositions must be at least a minimum of one page and no more than 2 pages.
Compositions must relate to the theme of Davao City’s tourism campaign: “Davao: Life is here!”. Compositions may be written in English, Filipino or Visayan dialect. The entry may use traditional poetry with rhythm, meter and rhyme or non-traditional which is free verse.
Compositions must not contain profanity, belittling terms, or violent language, overtly offensive, ideas, or themes. Compositions with any such references will be disqualified. The competition committee and/or the board of judges maintains the right to exercise ultimate editorial control and its determination in these matters is final.
Each participant must complete the Official Registration Form. Forms with incomplete information or is not signed will not be accepted or will disqualify the entry.
Registration will start at exactly 8:00 AM.
The competition proper is from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for Youth Category and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM for Senior Category.
The decision of the Board of judges is deemed final.
Entries will not be returned to the participant. All entries shall become the property of the Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation,
I. The criteria for judging are as follows:
Relevance to the theme 30%
Originality & Creativity 30%
Clarity 20%
Lyrical technique 20%
TOTAL 100%
The top 5 entries will be reproduced and will be showcased at SM City Davao, Abreeza, Gaisano Mall and NCCC Mall from February 10 to March 31.
Entries will also be featured in the 75th Araw ng Dabaw Souvenir Program.
Announcement and awarding of winners will be held on March 13 during the Mayor & Vice Mayor’s Appreciation Program. (Venue to be advised)
II. Winners will receive the following:
Youth category
1st Prize 5,000 plus a trophy
2nd Prize 3,000 plus a trophy
3rd Prize 2,000 plus a trophy
Consolation prize (5) 1,000 each
Senior category
1st Prize 7,000 plus a trophy
2nd Prize 5,000 plus a trophy
3rd Prize 3,000 plus a trophy
Consolation prize (5) 2,000 each
The Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation & the City Government of Davao or any of the institutions/agencies involved in the implementation of the Poetry Composition Contest shall not held liable for any damage to the entry as a result of the competition and exhibition, or the failure of the participant to follow the above rules and regulations.
By submitting your poetry in this competition, the participant attests that the composition is his/her own original work.
