Hi troops, just wanna share with you my humble review about the FAMAS. I got this about a couple of weeks ago from Stan's armory. (hehehe)
First of all, its a springer but that is what I wanted in the first place a RELIABLE springer. I would always want to play with it in battle as well as plinking with it in my home "shooting range".
THE SHORT STORY.... The first time I saw this gun sa suking tindahan, I didn't take notice of it. It looked a bit odd with that oversized carry handle. But after reading some info about it in the ACM Games forum, I went back and tested the rifle.
When I went the store, someone was already checking it out. I tried shooting with it (in so short a distance) the first thing i noticed, was the convenience in cocking it. Took aim and shot, cocked it again and aimed at the same area, the bb hit the same spot. I fired five and the shots were grouped so tight like a 25 centavo coin. but that was about 10ft away.
After that initial test, I decided to get one from sir stan. When I tested the package at his shop, I could'nt help but bring it out sa likod where he has a wide area and an imrpovised target to shoot at. After adjusting the front and rear sights, (they all work for windage and elevation) i can already hit the target with consistency, though it was getting dark mga 6:00pm na kc. But I was very impressed, and reserved the unit. Went back the next day early so I can test the gun's accuracy. Re-adjusting the sights, I can hit the hanging target at about 15 mtrs using the peephole sight. I bought along a softdrink can that stan had lying around so I can shoot at a smaller object. When suddenly I saw a bird (pirok2) land on a branch overhead dun sa may ipil2. Took aim, and pulled the trigger. A puff of feathers and the bird fell in front of me. Forgive me for violating animal rights (I'm a hunter, I can't help it.) The darn gun shoots straight and can fall a target. Went back and paid for the gun and went home.
End of story . . .

Now more about the gun.
After taking inventory of the package, it has all the accessories that we get with our DE M83 package (except the charger and batts of course). The gun is solidly built and when you attach the mock silencer and the accessory mount for the laser and light on the front part of the gun, it will look more macho. With out the accessory mount though and using only the standard muzzle, the lenght is almost the same as the M83.
While still in stock, the gun will shoot straight with a flat trajectory at 45ft and will hit a 6cm target (a bit smaller than the diameter of a coke can) consistently and can fall an empty coke can too at that distance . Going farther you will have to adjust for the bb's flight, mine veers to the right when shooting farther than at 60 ft. must be the hop-up which is not adjutable but will still knock down coke cans. Cocking is very convenient, I'm a leftie and since the design of the FAMAS is ambidextrous, it does'nt really matter. What I like about the cocking mechanism is that it will make use of your aiming hand rather than you trigger hand to cock the gun, just like you would in a shotgun. Unlike bolt action rifles or the M16/A4 variants that make use of your trigger hand to cock the gun. This translates to less body movements.
The gun's power is acceptable leaves a welt for 3 days if you shoot your self at point blank. Though it will not penetrate a carton at 10ft. For some who have tried cocking the gun, you might say it makes a lot of noise. Kulang lang ng lubrication. I have taken my gun apart and oiled all metal parts (baby oil lang, wla pa akong silicone lube) took out the squeaking noise. Very sturdy yung internals, kaya lang ang spring nya medyo malambot so that when you fire the gun it will make an echo due to the vibration of the spring after firing. What I did was took out the spring from a cyma shotgun which is harder and longer and fitted it in. Now it packs more power, and lesser noise and it will penetrate a box a 10 ft. but will not penetrate a coke can at point blank. I use .2 bb's coz .12 will not fly properly. As for distance, out of curiousity the bb will travel to about 1 1/2 post (poste ng ilaw) distance away with a considerable curve in the trajectory. The gun is also heavy may because of the 'recoil' vibration of the spring, I took out one weigth on the front portion of the gun, it has 5 in all! and man it has lots of screws kaya very sturdy ang construction nito.
Currently, I'm shooting at a distance of 60 ft. has a good consistency in a 12cm target. and still penetrates a subs 20 target paper. I have also installed a 4x20 scope so i can see targets a bit farther. I have also painted it na parang tiger camo inspired using spray paint. I'll be adding a bipod to complete the setup, Oh I've had 7 bird kills so far, don't worry the dead birds don't go to waste, my piranha thanks me for it.
I don't have any comparison except for the shotgun, I'm gonna get a Well 733 for comparison. Overall if you want a not so common looking gun, with reliable performance. this gun is a must have. I will be using this as my sniping system in games coz I like to engage targets at long distances. Will let you know of its performance in the field.

It me again, just found out that some of our friends are looking at the review and they would want to know any negative aspect of the gun.
1. This baby is heavy, if you lag this around without a sling, it will become very tiresome, its front heavy too. so what I did was remove one of the weights in the front, (take note 5 in all!). now this balances the gun and just enough weight.
2. Hop-up is fixed. but if you can mod that if needed.
3. The barrel lenght as indicated in the box is 27cm. What I'm looking at now is to change it with a brass barrel since it does not extend all the way to where you screw on the silencer/removable barrel. Since it is a bullpup design, if you look at the gun sideways the end of the aluminum barrel is just below the cocking handle. Talk about that wasted length. But I'm worried if extending the barrel will create a vaccum effect. Better take some measurements.
For now that's what I noticed, Also if you're not a fan of springers then this will not be the gun for you. But if have the mott one shot - one kill, in this category of ACM guns then it worth your money.
I will be testing the gun later today using .25 black BB's. I'll post it here one I'm done. I've printed my own target paper so I can properly document it.

Sir stan,
I'm almost there in the sweet spot, just a few more experiments and will post additional info about this baby. I haven't yet done the range test. Still observing the gun after firing so many shots. I use it daily to see how it performs after replacing the orginal barrel. Though I've been quite busy with a lot of things lately. Dami kc deadlines.
But if you talk about sturdiness this gun is superb.

Musta naman ang improvement with the barrel sir? Worthwile MOD ba sya? Final na sir- inangkin ko na yung pangalawang FAMAS dito. Setup ko na rin sya for my night-games gun. Saktong sakto kasi ang springer sa playing style ko sa gabi. Will start my own accuracy tests tomorrow with the stock FAMAS- then work on the spring upgrade soon.
Pero kung Daylight speed games- my L85 with it's MONSTER ROF is king! heheheh.

With regards to the barrel mod sir, tama ra gyud, though one of my concern is how to improve the compression of the cylinder. I have yet to experiment. bacin naa ka idea dha.
With regards sa spring, shotgun spring ra to ako gamit, wla man gud madayon tong kay miks, pero kung maka pangita ka sa iyaha, apil na lang ko. hehehe
