Your maximum gun accuracy. No particular distance required. RDS are suppose to be adjusted to the capacity of your gun.
Accuracy is the ability to hit a mansize target at a certain distance. Precision is the ability to shoot 6 inch (max 12 inch) bb grouping at a certain distance.
How to Zero Your Red Dot or any sighting instrument for Dummies 101:
A. Lesson 1 - Hop mechanism
1. Adjust your hop to the farthest and straightest your gun can spit out the bbs. 2. Secure your hop lever/dial with a dab of gun glue/removeable glue or put a marker on the ideal setting of your hop. 3. Set up a manila paper about the size of your chest... about 20 feet or so. Make sure it doesnt move. 4. Secure your gun with a gun clamp or anything similar then fire upon the target paper. Just one burst will do. 5. Now adjust the dot of your RDS scope to the center of the bb groupings.
B. Lesson 2 - RDS scope adjustment
Depending on your RDS brand, windage adjustment is the left knob. Elevation adjustment is the top knob. On other brands its the other way around... just find out what is yours.
How to adjust these knobs?
- You may either adjust the elvation or windage first. Turn to the extreme left then go right click by click until your dot goes to the center of the bb groupings you've made on the manila paper.
This is done by newbies because most of them cant adjust sighting devices yet by using their eye alone. A veteran can adjust sighting instruments in 4 adjustments while a newb still cannot. It is also done so you wont waste too much ammo trying to find the right settings.
If your gun cant shoot accurately at 20 feet (even if its in stock form) dont bother putting in RDS scopes or any sighting instruments. Virtually useless.

sir, i just bought an RDS but it can't be adjusted (windage/elevation) it seemed that those knobs are useless & it costs 4k. all i can see from the scope is that the dot is not fixed. it follows your sight depending on the angle. is it defective?

You did remove the knob/covers and use the screw heads hidden inside to adjust your scope right? Which RDS is that? Try to post a pic and show us what you have there sir...

Hahaha oo nga naman, baka di mo natanggal ang knob covers. Adjustment is done with a 25 centavo coin or a screw driver.

Mga sir / jedi we know that nozzles and barrels of an AEG contributes also to the accuracy. but how true is it, mas mataas ang barrel mo mas accurate din ba? like, comparrison on an AK and M4 type AEGs kahit mas malakas ba ang fps ng M4 mas accurate daw ang AK due to the barrel lenght? sorry medyo ata ako kasi i'm planning to modify an M4 for a snype type para magamit sa long range using RDS. thanks jedi masters.

Longer barrel means longer range and the tighter the barrel means more accuracy.. Heavier weight bbs also contribute to accuracy.
